THE DOOR IS NOW OPEN!

That means a big thank you to everyone in Buckingham who helped these new facilities become a reality.

This area of the web site is now archive material and you can browse through the Open Door History by pressing NEXT at the foot of each page.

The work was planned over a seven year period and it is wonderful that it is at last a reality.  The project was funded by the PCC and members of the congregation with support from the Buckingham & Gawcott Charitable Trust, the Diocese of Oxford, Buckingham Town Council, Buckingham University, other trust funds and many individuals.  It has been supported by E B Buckinghamshire, with funding from Shanks through the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme.  We are very grateful for all the financial help we have received.

OPEN DOOR is about two things: the building and the community.  For centuries the Parish Church has been there for the whole town and its people.  The project bears witness to the fact that the church is open to anyone who needs it at any time.

WHAT'S NEW?  The project has given the church an office, a kitchen, a disabled toilet and a new staircase (with chair lift) leading to new rooms which are available to community groups.  The whole church is less draughty, and more accessible to the elderly or people with disabilities.  The office is staffed every week day from 10am to 12 noon.

COMMUNITY Open Door is also about strengthening the church's practical value to local people of all ages.  This may simply be by providing facilities for a community group.  In due course, we hope to appoint a community worker to liaise with local groups and undertake specific local activities.

YOUR PARISH CHURCH is there for baptisms, weddings and funerals, certainly, but it is also a place for people at all times of personal and family crisis, for bringing hurt that needs to be healed, for times when we have something on our consciences, or a great joy we want to celebrate.

COME AND SEE   Perhaps it is a long time since you have visited the church.  Time to come and take another look?

THERE ARE A VARIETY OF SERVICES some informal and light-hearted with laughter and song, some traditional and more serious or reflective in tone.  All provide an opportunity to join with others in God's presence: some things, rightly never change.

OPEN FOR YOU  The door is open to everyone in town and surrounding villages.  Those who are sceptical, doubtful or just plain perplexed are especially welcome.

I have set an open door, and no-one can shut it
