How to join Somerset Chamber Choir

(FULL or Temporary membership)

FULL or Temporary members may recruited at any age, subject to audition. Once a member reaches the age of 45 years, he/ she must re-audition annually, or at the discretion of the conductor .   Active membership is relinquished if the voice is no longer suitable.

We rehearse over four or five weekends each year (10am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday, usually in April, July, November and December). Punctual attendance and commitment at all rehearsals is required. There are two or three major concerts per year, usually at Kings College Taunton in December, and at Wells Cathedral in July/August . Additional concerts and social events, including visits to other cathedrals, take place regularly.

Prospective members are warmly invited to join in all or part of the next available set of rehearsals, and be auditioned (in confidence) at the end of one of the rehearsals. The audition will include sight-reading, pitching of notes from within a chord and holding your own line musically. Although not essential, you may like to prepare a short piece to sing.

Each member pays an annual subscription and signs the 'Conditions for Membership' 2008/9: Full membership £75 and concessions at £37.50. Concessions apply to those who are un-waged or students.  Somerset Chamber Choir reserves the right to adjust the amount on an annual basis or, in exceptional circumstances, terminate membership without refund.

The Choir is run by a Management Team with Project Officers who undertake numerous tasks.

Your APPLICATION DETAILS will be held in strict confidence and we will reply by email once the application has be discussed with the Musical Director
