SOMERSET CHAMBER CHOIR 2004 |
A programme of masterpieces by four of the UK’s most famous composers, juxtaposes brilliant large-scale works for choir and orchestra with more intimate works for unaccompanied choir. Fittingly for such a celebration, St Cecilia, the patron saint of music, is invoked in vivid works by Purcell & Britten. The concert also includes a striking motet for choir and solo soprano by contemporary Scottish composer, James MacMillan, and concludes with music by Handel in his most triumphant mood. Somerset Chamber Choir, now firmly established as one of the South West’s leading choirs, celebrates its 20th anniversary in a spectacular concert featuring some of the country’s finest solo singers and baroque instrumentalists. The impressive team of performers includes internationally renowned soprano Emma Kirkby and Canzona, recently appointed Ensemble-in-Residence at Magdalen College, Oxford. …firmly established as one of the South West’s leading choirs In its 20th Anniversary year, Somerset Chamber Choir can look back over an enviable record of first class music-making. Performing regularly with many of the UK’s finest vocal soloists and most distinguished instrumentalists, the choir has presented a spectacular range of choral music, in exciting and innovative programmes, to ever-growing audiences in the West Country.
