HOW TO GET THERE

Pamplona is relatively easy to get to, although

it must be remembered that during the days

of the San Fermin Festival (and just before and after)

there will be a huge number of people on the move

going to and returning from the Fiesta. This is

especially true at the weekends which is when

the biggest inflow of people takes place. So it would

be a good idea to plan your travel well, taking

account of the potential overcrowding.

The following is a list of timetables, routes,

prices, etc.

TRAVELING BY CAR

Coming from Madrid take the N-11 (main road) as

far as Medinaceli: Change to the N-111 for Soria:

Then take the N-122 as far as Tudela, and from

there you can choose between taking either

the N-121, or the motorway A-15, straight to

Pamplona. The motorway has a toll and it

costs 1.290pts. for the 83 klm. stretch.

The whole journey from Madrid

to Pamplona takes about

four hours.

(About 350 klms.)

From Barcelona: The easiest route is to take the

Motorway A-2 as far as Tudela and then switching to

the A-15 straight to Pamplona. There is a toll and the

total price from Barcelona is 5.590pts. If you come

from LLeida it is 4.105pts. From Zaragoza it is 2.715pts.

If you come from France by car the most convenient

place to cross into Spain is at the border town of IRUN.

However, if you want to do some sightseeing along the

way, there are more picturesque mountain crossings

at Ibardin, Dantxarinea, Valcarlos or Eugui. But

some of the roads are a bit narrow and mountainous.

From IRUN the shortest and best route is the N-121

over the Belati pass. However, if you are in a bit of a

hurry, then go to San Sebastian and take the  motorway

A-15. (There is a short toll stretch between Irurzun

and Pamplona of about 20 klms. which costs about

300 pts. This is a fast and comfortable route which

takes about one hour. If you go by Belate,

it takes about one and a half hours.

If you do drive to the Fiesta it is important to know

what parking space is available and what special

traffic restrictions apply during San Fermin

TRAVELLING BY PLANE

There are daily flights to Pamplona from Madrid

and Barcelona, but there are no direct flights from

outside of Spain. If you are in France, you can take a

plane to Biarritz and hire a car for the rest of the way.

Pamplona airport is about seven klms. from the city

at NOAIN. The is no linking coach service to the city.

There is a waiting taxi service and a telephone number

service - 232300. The service is good although a little

bit expensive, although there can be heavy demand

during the Festival and you might have to

wait round a while.

Airport Telephone Number: 948-168706.

Two Companies that fly to Pamplona:

The national airline, AVIACO - Tlf. 948-168751.

and a Regional Airline, LAN (Navarra), Tlf. - 948-168722.

TRAVELING BY TRAIN

You can travel by train from Madrid

and Barcelona. From Madrid (Chamartin Station)

there are daily trains at 9.00 and at 17.00. The journey

takes five hours and the price is 3.900 pts. one way.

From Barcelona there are three daily trains at 7.30,

13.00 and at 21.30. arriving at the respective times

of 12.54, 19.10 and at 5.40. The early morning and the

evening train costs 3.900 pts. one way while the noon

train costs 4.300 pts.

During the San Fermin Festival the trains tend to

be booked up so it is advisable to make a booking

as early as possible.

It s not very practical to come from France by train.

The train from Irun to Pamplona is slow and

uncomfortable. You are better to take a coach from

San Sebastian.

CCOMODATION

Finding a place to stay in Pamplona can be a

bit of a nightmare, if you phone up any of the

cheaper Hostels or Hotels, they will laugh at

the idea of you trying to book a room. Of

course it it is not a problem if you can fork

out $300 a night for the best Hotel in Town.

However I don't know many people in that

situation, although I do have some friends

who stay there when they go to the Fiesta,

(Hi Kathy! Love & Kisses) and it is great

visiting them and using the pool {always take

your own Gin don't use room service}

However there are quite a number of solutions

to the problem of accommodation on the cheap.

I Know because over the last twenty or so years

I have tried them all. For lots more details

regarding accommodation read the "No Bullshit"

Fanzine. For how to order, e-mail me.

people who obviously have to much time on

their hands. But the real interesting stuff is all

in the printed version of the "No Bullshit"

Fanzine, which is available at a ridiculously

nominal price, which in reality translated into

a little drink for the author and a bit of postage.

If anyone out there wants to contribute any photos,

articles etc. We will be very pleased to look at them

with a view to including them in the Fanzine. Just
