Guitar and bass tuition
I can offer tuition in most styles, including rock, pop, blues, country and classical.
I live in Milton Keynes (U.K.) and teach from my home. I do not visit students' homes to give lessons, as this would force fees up to a prohibitively high level, and my comprehensive teaching resources would not be close to hand. I have a teaching studio so that lessons are private and uninterrupted, ensuring the maximum benefit from lesson times.
It doesnt matter what stage you're at, beginner, intermediate or advanced, you can be assured of acquiring new techniques and improvement in all aspects of guitar playing, in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere.
I have been playing in most styles
for 35 years, as amateur and semi-pro, and have acquired a high level of skill that I can
pass on to you.
Before I went into guitar and bass
tuition full-time, I taught in a variety of state schools for nearly 20 years, so I have
teaching qualifications and experience with children. Testimonials are available to
demonstrate my suitability to teach children. I also taught in Adult Education classes and
therefore am experienced in teaching adults, too.
I currently have approximately 40 students
on my books who remain very loyal to me, a fact which speaks for itself. The vast majority
of my students rebook time after time.
All lessons are prepared on an individual
basis and all teaching materials are provided. Furthermore, I only teach individual
lessons, as this ensures the most rapid progress possible.
I also offer a transcription
service. This means that you can be taught to play the music you prefer, even though it
may not be commercially available. For example, I was teaching all the songs from the
latest Radiohead album 3 months before the official sheet music was published.
I have a huge resource bank of music,
techniques and theory which is available to every student.
If you have a minor problem with your
instrument, I can usually remedy it in a few minutes, at no charge to yourself. If
lengthier work is necessary, I offer a set-up and repair service at very competitive
rates, sometimes at 50% of the usual cost. If major structural work is required, I can put
you in touch with a colleague who makes guitars, as well as repairs them. He also offers
excellent value for money.
I am always happy to advise students on
all aspects of guitar care and purchase. I would not like to think of any guitarist buying
an instrument which was not the best available on their budget. Indeed, I have often
accompanied students when they are buying a new guitar, amplifier or effects unit to
ensure that they buy the best item possible for their needs, and at the best price.
