You don't have to be Butch Cassidy to enjoy this month's beer!
It's brewed by Marston's as a result of a unique collaboration between
Wetherspoon's - a chain of independent pubs - and the supermarket Tesco's.
This is an ideal beer for the lager drinker who
wants to start investigating ales. For a start, it's recommended that it's served chilled,
which is unusual for an ale. Very smooth, with just enough bitterness to counterbalance
the malt, it's quite a dry beer all in all and is eminently quaffable.
At 5% A.B.V. it's a little strong for drinking in quantity, but it
would be excellent served as a drink before a barbecue, for example. Definitely a summer
beer, although I enjoyed a couple of bottles on a cool October afternoon. The colour is
beautiful, gold and glowing, and the head stayed with the beer as the level in the glass
quickly dropped. I'm not sure how limited production is, so if you want to be sure of
getting a bottle or two to sample, get along to Tesco's soon.
It's good to see a British brewer trying something a little different
and I'm going to give "Sundance" 7 out of 10. This month's tasting session
almost produced a draw, with "St. Peter's Golden Ale" a close contender for the
title. This would be worth seeking out too.
