My Work

I became a guitar teacher about 5 years ago.

I've always wanted to work full time in some musical sphere and I decided to go for it!

I gave up the day job.....

I have between 40 and 45 students at any given time, They are at all ability levels and aged from 8 to about 48.

The sheer range of music that we cover together is one of the most stimulating aspects of my work. Current favourites of my students' are Radiohead, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Metallica and Ocean Colour Scene. Whilst I don't claim to like everything I teach, I usually manage to pick up some tip or technique from most of the music I cover. I'd say that due to teaching, I'm a better player than I've ever been.

Here are some other things that I do to earn a crust!

I repair guitars. This could involve a simple set up or a full-scale nut job. I also install acoustic guitar pick-ups. For anything major, I usually refer people to my mate Andy Viccars who isn't afraid to take a sharp tool to a guitar. He also makes guitars and they are really beautiful instruments.

I've always been interested in writing, and about a year ago, I was asked to write for "Sound On Stage" magazine - a U.K. publication. I had several articles and reviews printed and you can read some of these by clicking on the links below.

I don't earn that much from gigging, although at one time, about 10 years ago, money from gigs literally put food on our table! It seems a lot of hard work now. I guess it must be my age - I'm 46. I've always enjoyed it and, at one time, regularly played about 5 gigs a week and held down a full-time job teaching in state schools at the same time. Nowadays, I'm content to gig about 2 or 3 times a month with my band Eleven After Midnight.
