Beer of the month.........January

Well, the Wychwood Brewery have done it again! After their splendid "Old Devil" - the September 1998 winner - let me introduce you to Wychwood Brewery's "Fiddler's Elbow".

The recipe includes a blend of barley and wheat malts and Styrian hops. Quite a strong brew is this - 5.2% ABV - with a deceptively smooth taste. It goes down very easily!

The first impressions are of a very hoppy aroma with a nice counterbalance provided by an intense maltiness. Tasting it reveals a certain fruitiness in the mouth with a nice dry finish which allows the hoppiness to blossom behind it. The fruity qualities also continue to impress after swallowing.

All in all, a very fine beer, with a varied palette of complex flavours and aromas.

The brewery has a website here.
