When I first got a 4-track about 15 years ago, I found that I needed a bass to lay down some bass lines, and the picture opposite shows what I got. It was cheap and gave me a reasonable sound. Over the time I've had it, I've really gotten into bass playing and I've played quite a lot of gigs on bass. I don't gig this guitar, however, I borrow or hire gear. My Jazz copy isn't up to gigging, I'm afraid.

Still, at least it's full scale and it plays in tune. I use it to teach bass, and I have, at present, four students studying bass.

I read somewhere that Marshalls - yes, the amp manufacturers - imported these from Japan. I don't know if that's true. Does anyone out there know the full story?
