The Soviet Military prepared detailed topographic maps for large parts of the globe, usually at 1:200,000. This mapping represents the best available mapping for many countries, and coverage is available for virtually all of Asia, two-thirds of Africa, all of eastern Europe, as well as some other parts of the world (although this is less significant as other mapping is usually available as in Ireland).

Sheets are specified by cross reference of letter and number (e.g. K39) (which specifies a 1:1,000,000 sheet) and then within this box they go from 1-36 left to right, top to bottom, in the 1:200,000 series.

i.e.

The 1:100,000 series is specified again by the large quad (e.g. K39) and then within this box they go from 1-144 left to right, top to bottom.

These maps were produced to the Gauss-Kruger map projection system.

You can if you prefer tell us the area you want covered and we can work it out (preferably with lats and longs).

These maps are available also as scanned image files, or as georeferenced tiff files for use in GIS systems such as ArcView.

The maps have been scanned either at 300dpi/8-bit colour, or 200 dpi/24-bit colour.
