“Tectonic Development of the Eastern Mediterranean Region” book by Robertson & Mountrakis, GSPHSP260, 728 Pages, 2006.  The Eastern Mediterranean region is a classic area for the study of tectonic processes and settings related to the development of the Tethyan orogenic belt. The present set of research and synthesis papers by earth scientists from countries in this region and others provides an up-to-date, interdisciplinary overview of the tectonic development of the Eastern Mediterranean region from Precambrian to Recent.   OCETTB001 - GBP100.00

”Tectonics of the Western Mediterranean and North Africa” book by Moratti and Chalouan, GSPHSP262, 392 Pages, 2006.  This book aims at giving an updated insight into the overall tectonic evolution of the Western Mediterranean region and North Africa. The tectonic setting of the region reflects a long-lived and complex evolution, mainly related to the Alpine orogeny. This inheritance makes the Mediterranean Region a complex pattern of microplates where three main arc-shaped mountain belts develop: the Alps, the Betic-Rif Cordilleras and the Apennine-Maghrebian chains.  OCETTB002 – GBP85-00.

Peri-Tethys Palaeogeographical Atlas

Date: 2000

Price: £200

Format: 24 maps, plus 300-page explanatory notes in English in a box

The Peri-Tethys Atlas spans over 300 Ma. The 24 maps that compose this set distinguish 23 sedimentary domains, of which 16 are of major importance, and depict:

- the evolution of the sedimentary areas linked to the extensive and subsequent compressive tectonics

- the sedimentary deposits of eustatic origin

- the basins related to the compression

- the permanent emerged areas.

For each map, the determination of the events that took place during a short time slice (from 3 to 5 Ma) implied:

- setting out precise chronostratigraphic scales, and more particularly palaeontological ones

- ascertaining stress regimes and establishing relevant interpretations within the plate tectonics frame

- undertaking geodynamic analyses of the infilling and deformation of the main basins.

The Peri-Tethys Atlas allows:

- the examination of climatic variations associated to the extent of epicontinental seas and to the evolution of reliefs, and to their control of the facies (78 were distinguished, of which 21 are of major importance)

- determining the extent of the biotopes, essential for understanding their palaeontological evolutions

- forecasting the behaviour and infilling characteristics of the sedimentary basins and following up the tectonic evolution of the Peri-Tethyan platforms.

This Atlas is the result of 5 years co-operation, under the Peri-Tethys Programme (1994-1999) of about 250 scientists from 30 different countries having responded to an international call for participation. More than 1000 authors contributed to the publications related to this programme.
