WORLD MAPS

We have available four recent world geoscience maps, all of which are great for wall display, and provide a valuable insight into the world around us.  Thumbnails & sample sections can be viewed on our website (www.geopubs.co.uk).

New - Entirely Revised 2nd Edition

Geological Map of the World 1:25,000,000.  2000, 3 sheets.  Second edition of CGMW/UNESCO's popular map, presenting the world geological setting clearly.  There is a clearly distinguishable contrast between the continents - with rocks up to nearly 4 billion years old - and the oceanic crust - with rocks no older than 200 million years.

The Mercator projection and the three-sheet arrangement gives a choice of centring the map either on the Atlantic (emphasizing seafloor spreading and subsequent continental drift) or on the Pacific (showing subduction and with the "Ring of Fire").

This map has been completely revised to show a clear distinction between sedimentary, volcanic extrusive, and endogenous dated formations.  Oceanic geology has been updated according to the most recent magnetic and satellite-gravimetric data.  Positions of the main volcanoes and meteor crates have been added.  The new cartographic conception of the map allows a rapid visual reconstruction of the main plates and sub-plates of global tectonics.  Size of the three assembled sheets: 196 x 100 cm.

Available in three formats:

Set of three printed sheets: WORGLM002 - £27.50 or US$45.00 or €50.00.

Multimake version (three printed sheets joined and laminated.)  £100.00 or US$160.00 or €170.00.

Digital ARC Info® (professional use) WORGLM002D - £150.00 or US$240.00 or €250.00(Price greatly reduced.)

World - Seismotectonic Map of the World 1:25,000,000.  2002, 3 sheets with notes.  Great new map showing earthquake epicentres classified by size, age depth; crustal ages, chronostratigraphy, zones; plates with motion vectors; subduction zones and various fault types. 5 Millennia of earthquakes around the world.  Approx size when assembled is 200 x 100 cm.

Available in two formats:

Set of three printed sheets at 1:25M + notes:  WORTTM003 - £25-00.

Single-sheet version at 1:25M: WORTTM004 - £12-50.

Maps of the World Environments During the Last Two Climatic Extremes (Climex Maps) 1:50,000,000.  2002, 2 sheets, 2nd edition.  Two maps showing  the global environment at the time of the last two climatic extremes, i.e. at the  Last Glacial Maximum when the average temperature of the earth was 4.5ºC lower than present and at the Holocene Optimum when it was 2ºC higher.  This map is very thought-provoking and interesting in view of the current debate re global warming and its effects.  With explanatory notes.

Available in two formats:

Set of 2 printed sheets + notes: WORENM001 - £15.00.

Digital ARC Info® (professional use) WORGLM002D - £50.00 (price greatly reduced).

Mineral Atlas of the World 1:10,000.  Sheet 9: Europe and Neighbouring Countries - Digital version.

The Mineral Atlas is published as an ESRI published map file (pmf-file), which makes the atlas automatically accessible through included ArcReader free software. This light version of a GIS software gives the user the possibility to zoom in and out with access to different layers, identifying feature information and printing layouts. Base map data are obtained from the dataset Digital Map of the World from ESRI.

This CD also contains all the necessary data sets to reconstruct the printed version of the map sheet by other GIS software, which reads ArcInfo coverage, shapefiles and dxf-files. It also gives geographical access to the Mineral Atlas database containing detailed table information of each deposit as previously published printed version of Lists and Mineral deposits. In addition an ESRI ArcMap document file (mxd-file) is included for ESRI ArcGIS software users.

South America - Digital Geological Map of South America 1:5,000,000. 2003, on one CD-ROM. Compiled from a wide variety of published and unpublished sources, mainly from national surveys, but also direct contributions. This is being presented as a new edition, further to the 2000 paper map (which is now in short supply); we believe there are some revisions to the continental geology, but the main difference (apart from the digitisation of course) is the inclusion of the adjacent oceanic areas in the form of single, non-topological GIS layers - bathymetry and geological traces of the platform. All the data are integrated in a simple, fully functional GIS available in both a prescribed freeware format (ArcExplorer) and files for full use with proprietary software (such as ArcView). The CD also provides in addition to the GIS data, other data files like maps in the CDR, DGN, DXF, JPG and TIFF formats. The entire system is self-explanatory, easy to handle, with the guidance of a tutorial in PDF format.  SAMGLM001D - £75-00
