“Tectonic Development of the
Eastern Mediterranean Region” book
by Robertson & Mountrakis, GSPHSP260, 728 Pages, 2006. The Eastern Mediterranean region is a
classic area for the study of tectonic processes and settings related to the development
of the Tethyan orogenic belt. The present set of research and synthesis papers
by earth scientists from countries in this region and others provides an
up-to-date, interdisciplinary overview of the tectonic development of the
Eastern Mediterranean region from Precambrian to Recent. OCETTB001 - GBP100.00
”Tectonics of the Western
Mediterranean and North Africa”
book by Moratti and Chalouan, GSPHSP262, 392 Pages, 2006. This book aims at giving an updated insight
into the overall tectonic evolution of the Western Mediterranean region and
North Africa. The tectonic setting of the region reflects a long-lived and
complex evolution, mainly related to the Alpine orogeny. This inheritance makes
the Mediterranean Region a complex pattern of microplates where three main
arc-shaped mountain belts develop: the Alps, the Betic-Rif Cordilleras and the
Apennine-Maghrebian chains. OCETTB002 –
GBP85-00.
Petroleum Geology of Africa: New Themes and Developing Technologies
Contains papers on a wide range of topics related to the petroleum geology of Africa. As frontier exploration in Africa moves into ever deeper water and new basins, there is an increasing risk to mitigate the high costs by reducing risk. One way of doing this is by drawing on knowledge from other areas. The book includes regional papers ranging from syntheses on a continental scale to details of the salt tectonics of the West African margin. As well as providing insights from regional studies and highlighting many promising frontier areas, the book also addresses the need to continue using technologies to their limits by including papers on topics as diverse as gravity interpretation and fluid inclusion studies. The book provides essential reading for those requiring further insight into the origins of Africa's diverse petroleum systems, and will be key to geologists and geophysicists involved in the exploration for and exploitation of oil and gas throughout Africa. Of particular note is an attached CD containing a map of Africa's petroleum basins classified by age of target reservoir system.
Contents
- A map compilation and synthesis of Africa's petroleum basins and systems
- 2nd and 3rd Millennium Reserves Development in African Basins
- Africa's Petroleum Systems: four tectonic aces in the past 600 million years

Africa - Metallogenic Map of Africa 1:5,000,000. 2002, 4 Sheets, including the Legend; overall size when mounted 172 cm x 222 cm. Covers the African continent, Madagascar and other islands, parts of the Arabian Peninsular, and parts of southern Europe. Transverse Mercator Projection. Dual French/English Legend. The map supersedes an earlier version of the International Mineral Deposit Map of Africa (Sheet 1), produced in 1991. The geological background is based on the International Geological Map of Africa, 1:5 000 000, 1985-1990, up-dated where applicable. Mineral deposit data (location, name of the more important deposits, commodities present, status, shape or type of deposit, orientation, and size) are portrayed against a background depicting the chronostratigraphic succession of sedimentary and volcanic sequences and intrusive magmatic bodies, the geotectonic setting of orogenic domains, or genetic host rock environment, and distinguishing the lithology of magmatic and metamorphic rocks. Includes 19 larger scale insets for areas of particular interest. The commodities shown include not only the full range of metals (gold, copper, zinc etc), but also gemstones (diamonds, rubies, sapphires, etc), hydrocarbons and non-metallic minerals (talc, graphite, sulphur, etc).
