PERSONAL STORY
PERSONAL NOTES BY THOMAS FLEWIN
( 1879-1954) Australia

Notes reproduced here were hand-written written by Thomas. in 1951, three years before his death, and contained information which had been handed down.

Date: June 7th 1951

George Flewin born in 1823 in England married Jane (nee x), had son, John, born in 1846 in Dartford, Kent. Left England for Australia approx 1853 and took up occupation as a brickmaker. Two years later his wife and son also came to Australia.

A daughter Ellen was born out here in 1858. John went back to England on a vessel in 1906.

The name of Flewin believed to be originally Flewellyn but it is not known just when the change took place. Believed to have been two or three generations prior to George.

In 1921 a Clarrie Flewin, born in 1902, of Port Simpson, Canada, visited Australia and made himself known to us and is believed to have been a grandson of George Flewin's brother, that is if he had a brother.

An English newspaper in 1935 referred to a Mr Flewin as the Head-Keeper in the London Zoo. This reference to the name and the visit from Clarrie Flewin of Canada are the only times that we have heard of the name except those in Australia who are all descendants of George and Jane.

Reg Flewin visited Australia in 1951 as Captain of the English Soccer team, but when contacted had no interest in family history and his parents had died when he was a child and he was reared by aunts.
