More Recent Acquisitions

Walter Ross Flewin

This photographic acquisition for the Flewin Family History Centre is of Thomas' grandson, Walter Ross Flewin, the second son of John and Helen (nee Copeland). It was provided by his grandson, who now lives in Vancouver.

Walter Ross, a Royal Engineer, went with the Canadian Expeditionary Force to Europe in World War One. He was wounded, but later re-joined the forces in the intelligence service and was known to have been on location at Mons in France at the signing of the armistice in 1918. After the war, he went briefly to England, where he married in his grandfather's native county of Kent.

Rosina Flewin

This photo was taken by Victoria portrait photographer Samuel Allen Spencer, probably in the 1870s. She is variously described in family and official records as Rosina, Rosena and Rose and, later, in official records as Rosena Jane.

Rosina, born in 1859, the third child and one of two daughters of Thomas and Jane Flewin married in 1877 to Christopher West, an Inn keeper from Lancashire, England.

Rosina died in Victoria in 1886 at the age of 27.

The following other photos were also provided from the Thomas Family Bible by Alasdair Bradley.

The above photos were found with Thomas' family bible and other Flewin photos passed down through the line of John and Walter Ross Flewin. They have no identification with them. There are few other clues to the idientities of the individuals, but all are thought to be Flewins.
