Links

Here are some hurdy gurdy links that I have collected on my travels around the Net. I hope you find them interesting, and am always looking out for new ones...

HURDYGURDY.COM - The biggest gurdy site on the net. Packed full with useful info. Not updated very much, but then it's probably all here already. US site, run by Alden & Cali Hackmann who also make a range of Hurdy Gurdies (use same web address to find out more).
HURDY GURDYS by Chris Eaton 0ne of the most respected English makers. No prices though!
Neil Brook - Maker - UK based. Neil makes a wide range of instruments, and was helpful when I was looking for one.
Bernard Ellis - Handmade Early String Instruments - UK based. I have never played or seen one of his instruments, but look at the range of things he makes! Blimey...
Bagpipes and Hurdy-Gurdies - a very interesting site.
HURDY GURDY String Guide - The best place to get strings in the UK
Hurdy Gurdy Maker / Drehleierbau - Helmut Gotschy - German Maker - large range of instruments
Les vielles de Bernard KERBOEUF - looks like a long wait if you want one of these, but that is true for almost any maker at the moment!
Plans de vielles a roue en vente chez Pascal Cranga, Bois et Buis pour la lutherie. Want to build your own? Very brave - here are some plans for sale.
sons et couleurs (R.Niepold): vielle ŕ roue - all about our favourite violin/bagpipe/kazoo cross.
Vielle ŕ Roue - Excellent French Hurdy Gurdy site by Xavier Aime - recently updated.
vielles - Another good French Hurdy Gurdy site.
We're talking about.... Hurdy-Gurdy - I'm talking about a pretty nice site
zanfonas - and here is the score from the Spanish jury - sorry US readers, a Eurovision joke!
Nagy Balázs tekerőlant készítő honlapja, Budapest - Hungary - Hungary? Feast your eyes on these!
Vielleux in Thailand - even further afield!
The Duellists: Home Page - it's the Duellists Home page. You'd guessed!
Andy Cutting - Ex Blowzabella member - amazing squeezebox player - Nigel Eaton collaborator.
Over the Water Hurdy-Gurdy Festival - a must for US players (and other players with lots of air miles to spend!). Due to happen September 2000. Click the link for more details.
Saint Chartier 1999 - some of the wilder exhibits from the celebrated festival last year.
Verlag der Spielleute - Including the three language hurdy gurdy book (in French, English And German). I have looked at this and it is probably of more use to makers (or obsessives!) than the average (in my case below average) player. Can be used as a sort of Rosetta stone to see what all the parts are called in different languages! The same book is also available from AMTA.
MUSIC TREASURES - ANTIQUE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS FOR SALE - an old gurdy for sale here - look at the price!!
Musical instruments for sale at Net Instruments - sometimes some instruments here - don't buy a kit though!
Hurdy Gurdies by Skyline - umm. These must be the cheapest hurdy gurdies ever. Anywhere. Has anyone out there bought one? And what on earth do they sound like? I'd like to have a go just to see!!!

Email contacts:

Mike Gilpin (mjgilpin@tesco.net) - UK player, maker, teacher. Maker of my gurdy. Hi Mike!
Chris Allen (chrisnbi@luthiers60.freeserve.co.uk) - UK player, maker. Nice chap.
AMTA - Agence des Musiques Traditionelles en Auvergne (amta@nat.fr) - AMTA sell a vast range of traditional French music related material, good catalogue. The other email address sometimes given for AMTA (vpc@amta.fr) seems not to work. AMTA will accept credit card numbers via email for orders - I did this and the things I ordered arrived extremely quickly.
Jon Hall (jon@carlton.powernet.co.uk) - Me! Any comments, corrections, suggestions welcome. If you want to add your name, web site address or email to this links page, please let me know!
